Description

This is an early 19th-century post office. The exterior is roughcast and resembles ashlar, with coped verges and a bitumenised slate roof, and brick stacks that are truncated. The building is two storeys high and has two bays initially, with two further bays set back. Plain pilasters are present between the bays and at each end. It features 12-pane sash windows with stepped voussoirs above. The ground floor of the two left bays has a double shop front with a curved, 20-pane fixed window on either side of three-quarter glazed doors. These doors have ornamental glazing bars and a transom light, with polished brass sills to the windows. A continuous serpentine facia incorporates fluted pilasters. To the right of the shop front is a further opening within a semi-circular recessed area, emphasised by voussoirs, leading to a 6-panelled door and a fanlight.
