Description
The Old Vicarage is a vicarage that has been converted into a house. It was established in the 15th century, with significant rebuilding in the 17th century and further modifications in the 19th century. The building features painted rubble walls and a slate roof, with a coped verge on the left and brick stacks. The central gabled block has a wing projecting on each side, with the central portion thought to be the remnants of an open hall. It is two storeys tall and has a layout of three bays, one bay, and two bays. The windows include some 12-pane casements and sash windows with glazing bars, as well as a Venetian window with ten lights in the first floor of the central bay. There is a gothic window with a pointed arch on the left side of the central wing. The door opening to the left has a plank door with a transom light featuring glazing bars and a flat hood supported by moulded brackets. There is another door opening on the right side of the projecting wing. The garden front is uniform with six bays, a hipped roof, and sash windows with glazing bars. The interior is mostly from the 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations and fragmentary remains of a 17th-century roof in the central wing. The site is believed to be on an ancient Saxon location.
