Description
The railings, piers, gates, and lamp overthrow at the south-west entrance to the churchyard of the Church of St Mary were built in the late 19th century. The central gate piers are made of coursed and squared rubble, supporting paired cast and wrought-iron gates. There is a later wrought-iron lamp overthrow, although the lamp itself is missing. On each side, there are serpentine wrought and cast-iron railings with ball finials at intervals, set on a low coursed and squared rubble plinth. At each end, there is a coursed and squared rubble pier topped with a hipped cap; the pier on the left was overgrown with ivy at the time of the last survey in May 1984. This structure is primarily noted for its group value with the Church of St Mary.
