Description

This stable, located approximately 40 metres east of Great House Farmhouse, dates from the 17th century. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubble and features a double Roman tile roof with coped verges and shaped kneelers, as well as the lower portion of a finial on each gable. The building is one storey with an attic and has a western elevation consisting of four bays. Each bay contains 2-light ovolo moulded mullioned and transomed windows, along with a small casement window with glazing bars, all set beneath chamfered lintels. There is a central door opening with a 19th-century plank door that has strap hinges, and the doorcase features ovolo moulded jambs and a chamfered wooden lintel. Inside, there are remains of a cobbled floor, three stalls on the ground floor, and a manger. A staircase at the south end provides access to the first floor. To the left of the stable's frontage, there is a wall made of rubble extending approximately 20 metres, which includes a pair of tall rubble gate piers topped with ball caps.
