Stable About 6 Metres North East Of Rookery Farmhouse

This stable, located about 6 metres northeast of Rookery Farmhouse, dates back to around 1720 and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble with stone dressings, topped by a double Roman tiled roof featuring raised coped verges, kneelers, and finials. The stable has three bays and is 1½ storeys high, with the central bay projecting forward. It features a round-headed central door with a keystone and a string course that runs from the imposts across the central bay. Above the door is a round oculus set in a limestone square gable, with an oval oculus on each side set in limestone rectangles. There are lean-tos on both the left and right sides. The right return has a 3-light casement window with ovolo-moulded mullions in the gable end, and there is a continuous lean-to along the rear. The interior was not inspected, and the building was noted to be in poor condition at the time of the survey in December 1984.
