Tithe Barn, Cart Shed, Engine House And Shelter Sheds, 50 Metres South Of The Court House

The Tithe Barn, cart shed, engine house, and shelter sheds, located fifty metres south of the Court House in East Quantoxhead, have medieval origins. The Tithe Barn was likely restored in the late 18th to early 19th century and again in the mid-20th century, while the other structures date from the late 18th to early 19th century. They are constructed from blue lias random rubble. The barn features a gabled roof at the west end and a hipped roof at the east, with asbestos slates on the south side and thatch on the north, along with some decorative ridge tiles at the west end. The north front has scattered ventilation slits and a double door with a glazed opening above. To the left, there is an attached gabled two-storey cart shed, partially slate-hung, with double doors and a stable door to the right, along with a loft door above. To the right is an attached engine shed with an apsidal end, which is a simple storey with asbestos fish tiles and a square leaded opening, but no machinery inside. The shelter shed attached to the south front has pantiled roofs and stone piers, consisting of nine bays, with the centre six bays west having an attached three-bay pantile roof end. The random rubble cart shed features wooden piers. The sweep of the pantile-roofed shelter shed below the barn is an important part of the group with the Church of Saint Mary and the Court House.
