Description

The Pettman Chest Tomb is a late 17th-century chest tomb located in the churchyard, 16 metres north of the north transept of the Church of St John Evangelist. It is constructed from Ham stone and features a sunken base, a moulded plinth, and fluted pilasters. The tomb has semi-circular arched panels with rusticated and keystoned arches, with one at each end and two on each side. It is topped with a heavy hipped top and deep cove moulding. This tomb commemorates James Pettman, who died in 1679.
