Description

ST4916 MONTACUTE CP MIDDLE STREET (South side) 8/148 Remains of cross in churchyard, about 3 metres south of tower, Church of St. Catherine (formerly listed as Churchyard Cross) 19.4.61 GV II Churchyard cross. C15. Ham stone. Base about 1 metre square and 500mm high, with broached corners; shaft fragment about 2 metres high, square plan with roll-mould to corners, tapered, with traces of a figure on the west face set in a trefoil-arched canopied recess. (Pooley, Old Crosses of Somerst, 1877; VCH Vol III, 1974).
