The Dovecot, 30 Metres North East Of Godminster Manor

The Dovecot, located 30 metres northeast of Godminster Manor, is a dovecot that likely dates back to the 17th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble with Cary ashlar dressings and features stone slate roofs with plain gables. The structure is approximately 6 metres square in plan. The south wall has a plain boarded door set in a heavy frame beneath a timber lintel, with a block sundial positioned above it. Each gable has 3-light ovolo mould mullioned windows with labels, found in the south and west gables. Above these windows, there is timber weatherboard cladding on the upstands, which includes apertures for birds in additional gablets on all sides. The interior corners are splayed, providing accommodation for around 840 birds in 20 layers. Overall, it is a sophisticated building.
