Description

CORNWELL SP2627-2727 13/83 Dovecote approx. 65m SW of Cornwell Manor

GV II

Dovecote. Probably late C17 with later alterations. Roughly coursed limestone rubble with alternating angle quoins; pyramidal slate roof. Square plan. Single storey. Small rectangular chamfered window on each side except west which has recessed boarded door with stone lintel approached by steps. Segmental-headed doorway at ground level to east. Ornamental wooden lantern with 2 tiers of pigeon nesting holes and ledges to each side and carved decoration below double pyramid cap with finial. (Buildings of England: Oxfordshire: p557) [2521]
