Description
Forster's is a cottage that dates from the 16th century, with alterations from the 17th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble and has a thatched roof with two brick ridge stacks. Originally an open hall house, it has been modified into a three-unit layout with a cross-passage, and there have been further partitions added in the 20th century. The building is single storey with an attic and features a garden front with one bay on each side, showcasing two and three-light casements. The ground floor windows are set under wooden lintels, while the first-floor windows are located in gabled dormers topped with thatch cresting. The entrance door, which has a glazed panel, is situated between the bay sets and also features a wooden lintel. Inside, the cottage has exposed ceiling beams and a fireplace with a dressed stone surround, including moulded jambs and a lintel that backs onto the cross-passage. The first floor displays ornamental plasterwork, including three fleur-de-lis and the date "BTR 1712," along with an elaborate plaster frieze and cornice.
