Description
Holcombe is a cottage that dates from the 15th century, with alterations made in the 16th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed from colourwashed rubble and features a thatched roof with an off-centre rubble stack. Originally an open hall house, it has been adapted to a later cross-passage plan. The cottage is single storey with an attic and consists of three bays. The ground floor has 2-light casements with leaded lights, set under wooden lintels, while the attic windows are positioned under eyebrow arches. There is a central door opening with a thick frame and a 2-centred head, leading to a plank door, which is sheltered by a bonnet hood supported by two posts. To the left of the door opening, there is a projecting turret that houses a bread oven. The rear of the cottage has various 20th-century additions. Inside, there are several interesting features, including doorways, ceiling beams, an oven, and a truck.
