Description

Sycamore Cottage is a cottage dating from the 16th century, with later alterations, particularly in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble, with a coped verge and thatch roof, and has two brick ridge stacks. The building is picturesque and originally an open-hall house, now with a floor above. It incorporates a former byre and has an L-shaped plan.

The cottage is single-storied with an attic, featuring very irregular window placement. There are two-light casement windows with glazing bars, some beneath wooden lintols, with one window on the first floor positioned under an "eyebrow" dormer. A window is set in a shallow projecting wing with a front-facing gable. There are two door openings, each with a plank door incorporating glazed panels, with the door to the left sheltered by a tiled hood.

The interior includes an inglenook fireplace, and the roof appears to be of cruck construction, showing some smoke blackening.
