Description

No. 8, High Street is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with a double Roman tile roof, and has three brick stacks. A coped verge extends to the left, and there is a 20th-century gabled dormer and two roof lights. The house was likely originally an open-hall house, which was later floored. It is a single-storey and attic building with two and three-light casement windows, some including wrought-iron ventilating lights, and wooden lintols. There are two door openings with plank doors. Inside, there is a winder stair, a fireplace with a broad chamfered wooden bressumer, a cross-beamed ceiling, and a mid-19th century fireplace set within a fluted 18th-century surround.
