Description
The walls and gatepiers to St John's churchyard, located on the north side of High Street, date from around 1860. The two gate piers at the south entrance to the churchyard are made of ashlar and stand approximately 8 to 10 feet high. Each pier has ten sides, a cornice, and a pyramidal top with crenellations, featuring Gothic panelled sides. Both piers are connected to low walls that once supported railings around the churchyard, also constructed of ashlar with a plinth and coping. Additionally, a further pier with a coped top is attached to the wall opposite the west door of the church. The listed buildings from No. 25 to No. 31 on the north side form an important group with No. 2 Church Lane.
