Description
No 18 on High Street is a mid to late 19th-century building that stands three storeys tall. It is constructed of red brick, likely by the local builder Merrick, and features ashlar dressings, particularly on the ground floor. The building has a plain band and a parapet, with rusticated quoins and a stringcourse. There are two windows on the façade; the second floor showcases stepped voussoirs, while the first floor has two bays with dentilled cornices and three lights each. The windows are sashes with close-set glazing bars. The ground floor includes a contemporary shop front with a dentilled cornice, featuring double shop fronts with windows separated by slender colonettes, adorned with foliated capitals and spandrels. Nos 18 and 20 together form a cohesive group.
