Description

This is a section of the Glastonbury Abbey precinct wall, which dates from the 15th century but is a reconstruction of the 13th-century abbey boundary wall, incorporating some of the original 13th-century masonry. The wall is made of coursed and dressed stone, with the upper courses being rubble. The tallest part is on the east side, which is the most complete section. In the center, where the masonry has been disturbed, there is a later two-centred arch. The wall is lower from the center to the west end, where it ends in the rear yard of the Abbey Gatehouse. Together with other listed sections of the precinct wall, this part reflects the 13th-century extent of Glastonbury Abbey.
