WEYMOUTH ROAD Selwood Hospital. Tramps accommodation and Boundary Wall to Selwood Hospital, fronting road running from entrance by the Lodge and terminating opposite Albion Place

5.5.81

GV II Early-mid C19, part of the former Workhouse complex. The boundary wall is rubble about 5-10 feet high mostly. The tramp accommodation is against the north (Weymouth Road) section of the boundary wall. Coursed rubble with slate roof, and a lower lean-to below a clerestory over cells. Row of seven cells with small lights above a slop-shute. Interior: stone table against wall with recess for slop-shute.

An interesting survival especially in sociological terms.
