Description
Selwood Hospital's tramps accommodation and boundary wall date from the early to mid-19th century and are part of the former workhouse complex. The boundary wall, mostly 5 to 10 feet high, is constructed of rubble. The tramp accommodation is located against the northern section of the boundary wall, facing Weymouth Road. It features coursed rubble with a slate roof and includes a lower lean-to beneath a clerestory that overlooks a row of seven cells. Each cell has small windows above a slop-shute. Inside, there is a stone table against the wall with a recess for the slop-shute. This building is an interesting survival, particularly in sociological terms.
