Description

Rose Farmhouse is probably 17th century, originating as four cottages. It is constructed of local stone, rendered and colourwashed, with a thatched roof. The eastern gable has been removed to accommodate an extension. The farmhouse is two storeys high and originally five bays wide. It features timber casement windows with leaded panes, mostly two-light, although bays two and three (on the lower level) and bay four (on the upper level) have three-lights. A single window is located between bays one and two. A timber, thatched porch with a modern glazed door sits between bays one and two, and a 20th-century glazed door is located between bays four and five. A lean-to structure extends from the eastern gable, part of an extension built around 1800. A further major extension exists to the north. Inside, an open fireplace is present, featuring a cambered, chamfered timber lintol with an oven and inglenook seat. The roof structure comprises unsophisticated 'A' frames and includes stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. A circular recess alongside the west fireplace indicates the former location of stairs.
