Description

Lattiford House, now Childsourt School, is a house dating to around 1800. It is constructed of local stone with ashlar dressings, featuring a bitumised hipped roof hidden behind shallow parapets, and ashlar chimney stacks. The house has a ā€˜U’ shape with a later extension. The main South elevation has two storeys and attics, arranged over six bays. Features include a plinth, band course, rusticated quoins, a dentilled cornice, and large sash windows with 12 panes, set in architrave surrounds with keystones. A single-storey porch with a flat roof projects between bays 3 and 4, supported by attached Ionic columns and a full entablature with pediment. There are 6-pane casement windows in attic dormers located in bays 3 and 4.

A simpler, three-bay extension was added to the West around 1850, partially rendered, with a Welsh slate roof. The East elevation of the extension has two angled, two-storey bay windows with flat roofs.

The house occupies the site of an ancient manor recorded in the 14th century. It was altered after a fire around 1900, as documented by Sweetman G in his History of Wincanton circa 1903. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
