Description
The range of workshop buildings attached to the north-east of the main block of the former Parrett Iron Works dates from the 19th century. These structures are built from coursed rubble made of Ham stone and feature Welsh slate roofs, some of which have timber-louvred ridge ventilators and plain verges. The main block has a triple-roof design and is single storey, while the return block to the north-east is two storeys and has four bays. The north-east side includes cast-iron small pane windows with segmental arched heads, along with some later doorways. Inside, there are cast-iron columns and a station-type cast iron roof, which has curved base ties to the trusses and cast iron battens that hold the slates in place. As of July 1985, the premises were still in industrial use, although not for their original purposes. This range is part of the Parrett Iron Works complex, which was established around 1855 on the site of earlier mills.
