Description
Langridge Cottage, originally a farmhouse dated 1648, has been divided into two dwellings. It was likely separated when Higher Langridge Farmhouse was built and extended to the right. The building was refenestrated in the late 19th century and reroofed in the late 20th century. It features roughcast over rubble with concrete tile roofs, an independently roofed lower wing on the right, an external stack on the left gable end, and a large lateral stack to the left of the original entrance. The plan consists of a three-cell layout with a cross passage facing south, a single cell addition at the north-west corner, and an extension at the east end. The building is two storeys high with a 2:1:2 bay arrangement, and all windows are 19th and 20th century casements. The entrance is square-headed with a part-glazed plank door to the left of the stack, and there is a gabled porch at the right end bay with another plank door. The interior has been partially observed, revealing a stair inserted at the rear of the cross passage and a plasterwork frieze of roses with the date 1648 in the ground floor room at the west gable end, which is covered by layers of wallpaper. The east end cottage has not been seen but was reported in 1974 to contain two jointed cruck trusses.
