Description
The gate and gatepiers at the former south entrance to Pixton Park were built in 1870. The gatepiers are made of squared and coursed local stone with Ham stone finials. They feature a square unmoulded plinth and cornice, along with ball finials supported by a central band on a curved support. The gate itself is wooden, reinforced with iron struts, and consists of a single gate with two cross supports and horizontal iron struts, which have closely placed vertical struts below. It also has a decorative hinge. Radiating wooden supports form a quarter circle on either side of the piers. A lodge located about 5 meters to the east, which is not included in this listing due to alterations, was also built in 1870 when the Earl of Carnavon relocated the entrance to Pixton Park and created a new driveway for guests arriving by train from Dulverton railway station.
