Description

The linhay and range of farm buildings at Riphay Barton, which enclose a foldyard to the east, date mostly from the early 19th century, with some earlier structures in the southeast corner. They are constructed from random rubble local stone and feature cob slate roofs of varying heights with coped verges. The layout includes a detached linhay on the west side of the farmhouse entrance and a range of farm buildings forming an L-shape around the foldyard. This range includes shelter sheds that abut a loft over a stable in the southwest corner, a loft over a byre on the return, and a barn in the southeast corner that projects outward with shelter sheds on the east front linking to the loft over the stable and the byre facing the foldyard.

The linhay consists of 11 bays open to a king-post roof, with curved struts supporting wooden piers on the facade. The shelter sheds have a collar beam roof and measure 5:2 bays, with a loft over the stable that has double doors in the southwest corner. The south front gable end features a loft opening and door, with two circular openings on the right having brick surrounds. There is a covered way linking to the cob barn, and the east front has 8-bay shelter sheds with ventilation slits in the wall of the byre that opens onto the foldyard. A covered entrance is located on the north side facing the road. Additionally, a late 19th-century range has been added on the west side of the foldyard. This group of farm buildings is considered to be of good quality. The farmhouse is noted to have been rebuilt after a fire around 1840.
