Description
Hele Manor is a house built around 1912 by Horace Farquharson for Mr. Amory. It features random rubble local stone, hipped plain clay tiled roofs, and overhanging boxed eaves with brick stacks. The building has a long irregular plan that lies east-west, with the entrance located at the north-west corner and a service wing at the east end, which includes a courtyard. Designed in the Georgian style, the south front has two storeys plus an attic, with full height canted bays that have 16-pane sash windows flanking a central two-bay loggia. The entrance is asymmetrically placed, with one bay set back to the left and the other bays set back to the right, which includes a lateral stack and the service wing beyond. A catslide roof extends over a single storey, three-bay range, creating an attractive composition. The main entrance on the north front features an octagonal ashlar Ham stone hooded porch with a panelled door. The interior has not been seen. Hele Manor is a notable example of an Edwardian gentleman's country residence.
