Description
Pixton Stables, part of Pixton Park, is a mid-18th century stables building, altered in the late 20th century. It is constructed of rubble with Ham stone dressings and has slate roofs, with hipped wings and a pedimented central section. The building follows a U-plan, with symmetrical wings at the rear. The left wing has two-bay gable ends, while the right wing is single-storied. The re-entrant angles have two-window arrangements with central entrances. The central block is seven bays wide and features a pediment over the central three bays, supported by a modillion cornice that is not repeated on the wings. Ground floor windows are 24-pane sashes with rusticated voussoirs; there are also 2-light casements set below the eaves on the left side. A circular window is located within the pediment. The facade includes semi-circular headed niches with rusticated voussoirs, and a 24-pane sash window flanks the central six-panel double doors, which have a leaded fanlight and rectangular sidelights. A pyramid-roofed bellcote with semi-circular headed openings and keystones is also present. The overall composition is considered to be of high quality.
