Description

This building is an outbuilding, likely former livery stables, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings. The roof is hipped and covered with double Roman clay tiles, half-hipped at the south end. The structure has two storeys and consists of eight bays. In bays 1, 3, 5, 7, and 8, there are doorways featuring Ham stone lintels, with stone dressings on all but the outer bay doorways. Bays 2, 4, and 6 have blocked windows, while loft doorways are present in bays 3 and 5. On the south-east gable, there is a plain doorway at first floor level, which is accessed by simple stone steps with a plain iron handrail. To the left of this doorway, there is a projecting wrought iron bracket that once held an inn sign. The interior has not been seen. This outbuilding is significant for both the streetscape and its setting in relation to Sparkford Inn and the nearby cottage to the north-east.
