Description
Manor House Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse, likely built in the 17th century, with significant remodeling and extensions added in the 18th century. The building features ham stone that is cut and squared, with ashlar dressings, and has a thatched roof with a coped east gable, a plain south gable, and a hipped angle. The farmhouse is arranged in a 'U' plan and has two storeys with a symmetrical five-bay facade facing north. It has a plinth and hollow-chamfered mullioned windows in wave-mould recesses, all of which are three-light with separate labels, although the window in bay five is now blind. In the lower bay three, there is a six-panel door set in a beaded ashlar surround, topped with an open pediment hood supported by console brackets, with the mouldings extending to either side over two-light beaded sidelights. The west elevation has three bays, featuring 12-pane sash windows in bays one and two, and pairs of 9-pane sashes in bay three, which have exposed boxes with timber architraves. There is a lower wing at the rear of the west crosswing, which has late 18th-century to early 19th-century leaded casement windows. The interior has not been seen, but it is reported to have a former cross-passage three-room plan. The west room features a four-bay beam and a panel ceiling, although the beams are now concealed by decorative plasterwork. This room became a crosswing in the 18th century, with a new, grander stair added to the rear, supported by tie beam roof trusses.
