GV II

Detached farmhouse. Probably C17, substantially remodelled and extended in C18. Ham stone cut and squared, ashlar dressings: thatched roof with coped east gable, plain south gable, hipped on angle; brick chimney stacks. 'U' plan; 2 storeys; 5 bays, symmetrical facade to north. Plinth; hollow-chamfered mullioned windows in wave-mould recesses, all 3-light with separate labels, but those to bay 5 now blind. To lower bay 3 a 6-panel door in beaded ashlar surround, under open pediment hood on console brackets, the mouldings extended to either side over two-light beaded sidelights. West elevation of 3 bays, with 12-pane sash windows bays 1 and 2 and pairs of 9-pane sashes to bay 3, having exposed boxes with timber architraves. Wing to rear of the west crosswing, set lower, with late C18/early C19 leaded casement windows. Interior not seen, but reported is a former cross-passage 3-room plan, with the west room, which has a 4-bay beam and panel ceiling in which the beams are now concealed by decorative plasterwork, becoming a crosswing in the C18, with a new grander stair added to the rear: tie bean roof trusses. (VAG Report, unpublished SRO, 1974).
