Description

The Old Farmhouse is a semi-detached farmhouse that may date back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed from roughly cut and squared ham stone, with ashlar dressings, and features a thatched roof with a stepped coped gable on the east side, continuing to the west, along with brick chimney stacks. The building is single-storey with attics and consists of six bays.

The windows are hollow-chamfer mullioned, set in chamfered recesses with labels, and all are three-light. The attic windows are two-light horizontal-bar casements integrated into the thatch, located in bays two, four, and five. There is a boarded door in bay three, framed heavily with a beaded and slightly chamfered design, positioned in a recess accessed by three steps. Between bays two and three, there is a projecting chimney breast featuring a band course and double offsets. A blocked window is present at the front of the east gable, with later casement windows added towards the rear.

Although the interior has not been seen, it has been reported to have a three-room cross passage plan. The hall contains a chamfered-arched fireplace in the north wall, while the parlour features a shell-hood recess where a window has been blocked. The third room has a stud and panelled partition. Most beams are cased, but one deep chamfered beam has a step and run-out stop, and another is shallow-chamfered with a cyna-recta stop. Additionally, the remains of a jointed cruck are visible in the wall near the west gable, although the roof frame has been raised at some point. Attached to the west gable is a structure known as Cobbles.
