Description
West Farm House, dated 1850, is a farmhouse constructed of local stone in random courses, featuring Ham stone dressings. It has a Welsh slated roof with coped gables and end stone chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and designed in an early 17th century style with an L-shaped plan. The main (east) facade has three bays, with an off-centre projecting stone porch that has solid sides and a gabled roof. The porch features a Tudor arched doorway with the date 1850 inscribed in the spandrils, and a coat of arms displayed in a panel above.
On the ground floor, there are five-light mullioned and transomed windows with plain chamfers. Above these, a string course separates them from the three-light mullioned windows on the first floor. The eaves course is decorated with an ornamented lead stackhead. All windows are fitted with cast iron casements that have patterned glazing. The north end gable, which faces the road, has a corbelled chimney stack with a panel displaying a shield and the initials MIIE, along with a small gable window in the attic.
The three-bay return wing matches the character of the main facade. The interior retains much original material, although the staircase has been replaced. The listing also includes the boundary wall to the north and its east return, the 19th-century pedestrian gate, and the plain capped gate piers, one of which has been relocated. The outbuildings that have been converted into dwellings are not included in the listing.
