Description

Bracken Greenslades is a farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages. It was remodeled in the 18th century from an earlier structure. The building features cob walls between rubblestone gable ends and has a continuous thatched roof. There is a brick ridge stack located to the left of the center and a rubblestone external stack with a brick shaft at the rear right, where it meets a thatched outshut. A pantiled wing extends from the rear left. The layout likely consisted of three units with the rear left wing. The building is two stories tall and has a five-window range. The 19th-century windows are two-light casements with small panes; those on the first floor are positioned at eaves level, while the ground floor windows have slate weathering. The cottage named Bracken, located on the right, features raised and fielded panels on an 18th-century six-panel door to the left of center, which is sheltered by a slate lean-to porch supported by brackets. The entrance to the other cottage, Greenslades, is found on the left side and consists of a 19th-century door within a pantiled gabled porch. The interior has not been inspected.
