Description
This is a disused icehouse located approximately 100 metres north-east of Brandsby Hall Stables. It was probably built in the mid 18th century for Francis Cholmeley. The exterior is made of rubble and features a rounded structure over an entrance tunnel, with a castellated gable at the west end that has a round-arched opening leading to a boarded door. Inside, there is a short barrel-arched tunnel and a deep, tapering cylindrical ice chamber made of brick with a domed roof. The chamber has sockets for joists of a former floor at the entrance level and sockets for the jamb-posts of double doors at the entrance to the chamber.
