Description

Spellar Park is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, dating from the early to mid-18th century, though it likely has older origins. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone and features 20th-century pantile roofs. It is 1.5 to 2 storeys high, with two sets of two first-floor windows.

On the left side of the lower range, the ground floor includes a 20th-century canted bay window and a part-glazed door with a three-pane overlight and a keyed lintel above. The first-floor windows are dormers, which show evidence of earlier openings below. The building has an eaves band, a cyma recta kneeler, ashlar coping, and a rebuilt brick stack to the left.

The taller range features a plinth and a first-floor band, with openings that have keyed lintels. The ground floor has 16-pane sash windows, while the first floor has side-sliding sashes, which may indicate a rebuilding of earlier work. This range also has cyma reversa kneelers, ashlar coping, and brick end stacks. At the rear, the taller range has altered ground-floor openings and a blocked central doorway. The first-floor band is interrupted by a landing window, and the first floor has side-sliding sash windows with projecting keystones. There are additional windows on the left side of the taller range in the left and right returns.

Inside, the taller range features a dog-leg staircase with grooved stick balusters. The rear ground-floor brick fireplace contains a Carron cast-iron grate that was discovered in situ during recent restoration work. The roof of the taller range has 18th-century triangular trusses.
