Description

Spella Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1800, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed squared stone and rubblestone, topped with a pantile roof. The building has a central stair-hall entry plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring two first-floor windows. The corners of the building are marked by quoins. There is a central six-panel door with an overlight, and above it is a medieval carved stone angel holding a shield, likely reused from Marton Priory.

The ground floor has mid to late 20th-century small-pane casement windows, which are tall and have monolithic lintels, while the first-floor windows are shorter with two-piece lintels. The eaves feature a decorative band, and the raised verges have moulded kneelers and ashlar coping. There are tabled brick stacks at each end of the building.

To the left, there is a 20th-century conservatory that is not of special interest. At the rear, a lean-to porch from around 1980 is also not of special interest, and there are flat brick arches with keystones above the 20th-century small-pane windows. The rear continues to have an eaves band and a 20th-century lean-to on the right, which is not of special interest.

On the left side, a former wash-kitchen outshut has a board door, shaped kneeler, coping, and a corner stack. The right return features an outshut with a circular rubblestone pier and brick infill below a tie-beam with V struts, along with an eaves band. The left return has an eaves band and a small attic window.
