Description
This is a mid-19th century iron foundry, later converted into a garage. It was originally built for James Booth on a corner site in Old Maltongate, Malton. The building is constructed of pink and cream mottled brick in an English garden wall bond, with a stepped eaves course. It has a brick stack and a pantile roof, hipped at one corner. The building follows an L-shaped plan.
The front facade has two storeys and three bays, defined by plain pilasters. The corner bay has half-glazed and panelled double doors with a window above them. The bay to the left features a segment-headed shop window with four round-arched lights, supported by colonettes with inverted bell caps. The bay to the right has been altered to accommodate boarded garage doors. The first-floor windows are 16-pane sashes with painted stone sills, except in the corner bay where the window opening is blocked. The ground floor openings are arched, with painted details, while the first-floor arches are flat. At the time of review in 1990, the building was unoccupied.
