Description

A terrace of three cottages located in Old Maltongate, Malton, dating to the late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-to-late 19th century and modernisation in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed of dressed sandstone with a rendered plinth, featuring gauged brick dressings and a pantile roof with brick ridge stacks. They are arranged as a 1-storey-and-attic composition with a 3-window front. The front features 12-pane sash windows with flat arches of gauged brick, and 20th-century boarded doors with glazed panels on the right side. Dormers with 2-light, large-pane sliding sashes provide attic windows. The rear elevation has two low storeys with a catslide roof. Each cottage has a divided door to the left of a 2-light, small-pane sliding sash window, with matching windows to the first floor. The windows have painted stone sills, and the ground-floor openings have painted timber lintels. The group value of the building lies in its cohesive terrace form and contribution to the streetscape.
