Description

These are probably two shops, later converted into two houses. The building dates to the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed dressed sandstone, with raised quoins on the left end, and has brick end stacks supporting a pantile roof. The front elevation has two windows per floor. A passage entry with a boarded door is centrally located. To the left of the passage is a 4-pane sash window in an altered opening, with a long timber lintel above. Number 38 features a mid-19th century shop front with pilasters, impost mouldings, a narrow fascia, and a moulded cornice. A boarded door with a divided overlight sits to the right of a square-paned window, which is positioned above a rendered base. Four-pane sashes are set in moulded frames with painted stone sills and flat arches constructed of voussoirs.
