Description
This boundary stone, dating from 1698, is located at the coordinates SD 9501 5297 and marks the former division between the lands of Thomas, Earl of Thanet, and Stephen Tempest of Broughton Hall. It now separates the parishes of Stirton with Thorlby and Broughton. The stone is made of millstone grit rubble and stands approximately 70 cm high. It is numbered 10 in the original series of 41 boundary stones. The east side is inscribed with a "T" for Thanet, while the west side features "ST" for Stephen Tempest. The top of the stone is marked with "1(0)". This boundary stone has been previously listed twice, including an entry under the parish of Broughton, which was removed from the list on September 24, 2018.
