Description
This boundary stone, dating from 1698, was originally used to separate the lands of Thomas, Earl of Thanet, and Stephen Tempest of Broughton Hall. It now marks the division between the parishes of Stirton with Thorlby and Broughton. Made of millstone grit rubble, it is one of a series of 41 stones. The east side is inscribed with a "T" for Thanet, while the west side features "ST" for Stephen Tempest. Part of this stone is located within the Stirton with Thorlby civil parish. The information is sourced from the Broughton Hall Archives, specifically from Boundary Rolls dated between 1698 and 1757.
