Description

This boundary stone, dating from 1698, is located at the grid reference SD 9480 5299 and originally marked the division between the lands of Thomas, Earl of Thanet, and Stephen Tempest of Broughton Hall. It now separates the parishes of Stirton with Thorlby and Broughton. The stone is made of millstone grit rubble and stands approximately 72 centimeters high. It is numbered 7 in a series of 41 boundary stones. The east side is inscribed with a "T" for Thanet, while the west side features "ST" for Stephen Tempest. The number 7 is also inscribed on the top of the stone. This stone is noted for its longer preservation from the water, standing about a yard and a half within Thanet's land.
