Description
The statue of a buccaneer and its pedestal, located approximately 20 metres south of The Priory, dates from the early 18th century and was restored around 1985. The sculptor remains unknown, but the restoration was carried out by Andrew Naylor. The statue is made of lead and stands on an ashlar pedestal. The overall height is approximately 2.60 metres, featuring a lifesize figure of a pirate dressed in 18th-century attire, holding a barrel on his left hip and a glass in his right hand. The pedestal is rectangular, with a moulded base and cornice. The statue is not in its original position and is part of a group of early 18th-century lead statues.
