Description
The Green Dragon is a public house located at No 16 in Bedale Market Place, dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a machine tile roof. The building has three storeys and four bays, with a cement plinth at the base.
The central entrance consists of a four-panel door set within a 19th-century Doric surround that includes a frieze and cornice. Flanking the entrance are two 18th-century canted bay windows, each containing a central eight-pane sash window and four-pane sash windows on the sides, all adorned with friezes, cornices, and blocking courses. To the far left, there is a boarded door with an overlight and a flat brick arch above it. The first floor features sash windows with glazing bars, while the upper floors have more sash windows, all with flat brick arches and stone cills. The building is topped with dentilled eaves and stone coping, and it has end stacks.
Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase with splat balusters.
