Description
The Waggon and Horses is a public house with a shop located in Bedale Market Place, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of red brick, rendered, and features a Welsh slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and has four bays. At the far left, bay 1 contains a 19th-century shopfront with a half-glazed door and overlight to the right. There is a 12-pane window above it, adorned with a frieze and cornice. Bays 2 and 4 feature 20th-century casement windows set within cement architraves. Bay 3 has a late 19th-century half-glazed door framed by a doorcase with pilasters on plinths, along with a frieze and cornice. The first floor has a decorative band and features sash windows with glazing bars and stone cills. The second floor has 6-pane sash windows, also with stone cills. The left gable is finished with kneelers and stone coping, and the building has end stacks and a ridge stack.
