Description

The gatehouse to Upsall Castle, located to the west of Garden Cottage, dates from around 1880. It is constructed of coursed rusticated sandstone and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with iron cresting. The building is two storeys high and consists of one bay. The entrance has a double board door with iron strap hinges set within a pointed-arch doorway that is roll-moulded and chamfered. There is a first-floor band and a recessed central panel displaying a coat of arms. To the right, there is a wall approximately 13 feet high with coping that connects the gatehouse to the wall flanking Garden Cottage.
