Description
Nevison House is a house that appears to be from the 18th century, although it features a datestone from the mid to late 19th century that dates it to 1666. The building is constructed of dark red-brown brick with stone dressings and has a swept pantile roof with ashlar coping and shaped kneelers, along with end stacks. It has two storeys and now features three first-floor windows, with the right half of the house having been rebuilt. The house has a plinth and chamfered quoins. The central entrance has a 19th-century shouldered door surround made of alternating block jambs, which includes the datestone and the horseshoe emblem of Upsall Castle Estate. The windows are 19th-century sashes with glazing bars, set within projecting stone architraves, and there is a band at the first floor level. The house is reputedly the former residence of William Nevison, who was hanged in 1685. At the time of the resurvey, the house was disused.
