Description
The premises occupied by York County Savings Bank is an early 19th-century building located on the north side of Market Place. It is two storeys high, constructed from coursed stone with a pantile roof. The façade features two windows, including a canted bay window from the late 19th century and a four-light mullion and transom window. The ground floor has a late 19th-century shop front and door, along with a double door with four panels beneath a rectangular fanlight, all set under a stone lintel. Access is provided by three steps. This building is part of a group that includes No 1, the premises occupied by York County Savings Bank, Nos 2 and 3, the White Swan Hotel and its outbuildings, and Nos 4 to 7 in sequence, which collectively form a notable group with The Bay Horse Public House, Nos 9 to 11 in sequence, and No 14, of which Nos 1, 9, and 14 are considered of local interest.
