Description
No 4 Market Place is a mid-19th century building with a front elevation of two storeys and attics, constructed in coursed stone. The roof is hipped to the left and features two gables at the front, each with a round-headed window above a cambered bay, situated above modern shop fronts. There is one brick stack. The rear elevation and wing date from the 18th century and are also in coursed stone, with hung sash windows that include glazing bars.
This property is part of a group that includes No 1, which is occupied by York County Savings Bank, Nos 2 and 3, the White Swan Hotel and its outbuildings, as well as Nos 4 to 7 in sequence.
