Description
The Bay Horse Public House is an 18th-century building located on the north side of Market Place. It is two storeys high and features a steep pantile roof with brick stacks. The gable ends are coped and have kneelers. There are two windows on each storey, with the first floor now rough-rendered and displaying applied fake half-timbering. The ground floor is constructed of coursed stone and includes a plinth. To the right, there is a flat carriage archway beneath one window, which has hung sashes and a lintel made of coursed stone, also with a pantile roof. The building retains the remains of crucks.
The Bay Horse Public House is part of a group that includes No 1, occupied by York County Savings Bank, Nos 2 and 3, the White Swan Hotel and its outbuildings, as well as Nos 4 to 7 in succession. Nos 1, 9, and 14 are noted for their local interest.
