Description
The Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph, along with St Joseph's Church Hall, was built in 1911 and designed by architect Leonard Stokes. It is constructed in the Perpendicular Gothic style using stone with a tile roof. The church is accessed through a forecourt, with the church hall located to the left. The hall features a stone porch with a gambrel roof, a large Perpendicular window on the south side, and hipped dormers in the roof. The church itself is entered through a squat tower at the north-west corner of the forecourt, comprising a nave and a north aisle, with four-light nave windows. Inside, there is an octagonal stone font created by Eric Gill. The church and hall, along with nearby buildings including Nos 35 to 37, Mount Royd, and Nos 38 to 40, form a group, with Nos 35, 37, and Mount Royd recognized as buildings of local interest.
