Description
St Joseph's Presbytery is an early 19th-century building located on Potter Hill. It is a large, two-storey structure with an ashlar face that has been rendered. The roof is made of Welsh slate, featuring flat stone verges and two stone chimneys at the gable ends. On the first floor, there are four semi-circular-headed windows with hung sashes and glazing bars. The ground floor windows were originally similar but now have blocked semi-circular heads and modern glazing. There are two doors that lead up steps, each consisting of four panels and topped with a semi-circular stone arch and a glazed fanlight. The building has a rendered plinth, a flat stone string at the first-floor level, and a flat stone eaves course. St Joseph's Presbytery is part of a group that includes Nos 35 to 37, Mount Royd, Nos 38 to 40, the Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph, the Church Hall, and Nos 44 to 47, with Nos 35, 37, and Mount Royd being of local interest.
